D’Iberville Cheerleader Makinzee Gilbert signs with Western Kentucky
D’Iberville High Senior Cheer Captain Makinzee Gilbert is taking her talents to the Division I level at Western Kentucky.
Western Kentucky is home to the reigning DIA All Girl UCA National Champions.
Gilbert is a base for the Warriors and says she has been cheering since she was six-years-old. Her favorite high school memory is winning state in ninth grade and finishing second in nationals as a freshman and sophomore.
Gilbert says those pressure cooker moments have her ready for the big stage with the Hilltoppers. “Just like the family aspect of it and the competitiveness of it. College cheerleading is very competitive, especially in the division that I’ll be going into, and I’m really just looking forward to meeting new people and branching out and seeing new things and having more opportunities. The best thing I can take away from D’Iberville cheer is just all the friendships and memories that I’ve made with everyone.”
You can also hear from archery signee Julia Pryor in sports at 9 and 10 tonight on WXXV.
