D’Iberville alum Justin Walley named Big Ten Freshman Player of the Week

During a big weekend of college football rivalries, D’Iberville’s Justin Walley helped Minnesota upset number 14 ranked Wisconsin, earning himself the honor of Big Ten Freshman Player of the Week.

Saturday, the Gopher defensive back picked off Badgers quarterback Graham Mertz early in the third on a contested ball near the sideline, giving Minnesota the ball on Wisconsin’s 28.

Two plays later, the Gophers punch it in and took the 13-10 lead.

Walley also tallied a career high five tackles against the Badgers.

The former Class 6A Mr. Football is the first Gopher freshman defensive player to receive this honor this season.
