Diamondhead Town Hall meeting on opioid abuse

Drug overdose deaths have reached a record high in Mississippi.
There were at least 211 overdose deaths in 2016, the most in state history. The Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics director says he believes that number is even higher.
Mississippi’s Health Department says the number of heroin addiction patients treated has more than tripled in the past three years.
Tonight, there will be a town hall on opioid abuse at Diamondhead City Hall. The meeting will begin at 6:30. Representatives from the Department of Mental Health, Department of Public Safety, The Bureau of Narcotics, and the Board of Pharmacy will be on hand.
The panel’s goal is to educate the public on opioid abuse and to talk about how communities can help reduce the death and destruction caused by opioid abuse.
