Diamondhead special election today

Diamondhead voters are at the polls today for special elections to fill vacant council seats.

Ward 2 was vacated after former Councilman Alan Moran resigned after his arrest on sex charges.

Ricky Sheppard stepped down from his position as Ward 3 councilman because he and his family moved into Ward 2.

Sheppard is now running for the Ward 2 seat. Many individuals were in and out of the Diamondhead Community Center casting their votes this afternoon. Election Commissioner Julie Boudreaux said, “Turn out today for a special election has been relatively good. We’ve had about 300 voters so far. Special elections generally have a really small turnout so for this election we feel like the turnout has been acceptable.”

Other Ward 2 candidates include David Hart, Anna DeMarco Liese. Ward 3 candidates are John J. Cumberland, Jesse Flies, Jamie Wetzel Morgan, and Carl L. Necaise.
