Diamondhead City Council votes to disavow the actions of its mayor
The Diamondhead City Council passed a motion Tuesday evening to disavow recent actions by Mayor Nancy Depreo.
The decision comes after a July 26th incident in which Mayor Depreo and her son were allegedly taking pictures of the license plates of cars in city hall’s parking lot to try to determine if the city hall activity center was being used for free during an event that day. This information coming straight from the council’s meeting agenda
Council members making the case said that the activity center was being rented legally at the time of the mayor’s alleged actions.
Council leaders said the vote to disavow her actions makes it clear that the mayor’s behavior does not represent the standards held by the city or the council.
Members of the council declined interviews on the situation, but council member John Cumberland expressed his disappointment during the meeting, saying quote “This isn’t what I signed up for. This is sad and embarrassing.”
Mayor Depreo has not appeared at the last two council meetings, and has not responded to our multiple requests for comment.
