Derek Fest 2016 Raises Money for Cancer
Cancer is a hefty battle to fight and residents from the Coast came together to support a Pascagoula man and his family.
An event held Sunday at the Government Street Grocery in Ocean Springs benefited raising awareness to testicular cancer and to help one man’s fight with the disease.
Twenty-seven year-old Derek Terry of Pascagoula was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2013 and after going through chemotherapy and surgery, doctors found a tumor on his brain.
Friends and family got together to host Derek Fest 2016 to raise money for the time Derek has been out of work battling cancer. “I was clear for a year and a half and it kind of just popped back up and it is kind of, I don’t like to let my guard down with it. I mean everyone should definitely have any health issues checked out. Don’t wait. I waited too long and it spread to the point where I’m still having to deal with it three years later. If you ever have a question or issues go get checked out, but it feels good just to have all my friends and family together supporting us,” said Derek Terry.
The event went on all day from 1 until 8 p.m.
