Deputy Moved in the Jackson Co. Sheriff’s Department

Jackson County Sheriff Charles Britt tells News 25, Deputy Louie Miller has been moved from Criminal Investigations Division to the Marine Patrol Division.

Britt took office in January, and promoted several law enforcement officers. Miller, who previously worked with the Pascagoula Police Department, was promoted to Deputy of the Criminal Investigations Division (C.I.D.) His appointment was approved by the Civil Service Commission.

The Commission is a three person board, appointed by the Jackson County Board of Supervisors, to oversee job security and fairness for employees at the Sheriff’s Department.

Britt says Miller did not immediately move into that position because he was attending to business in the Marine Patrol Division. When Miller finally did move to the C.I.D., several employees at the Sheriff’s Department were concerned Britt had not followed Civil Service protocol. They filed a complaint with the Commission.

One Commission member privately called Britt and expressed concern with Miller’s late transfer to the C.I.D. However, the Commission did not formally contact Britt or cite for any Civil Service violation. Still, Britt decided it was best for the Sheriff’s Department to move Miller back to the Marine Patrol Division.

A replacement for Miller in the C.I.D. has not yet been found.
