Deputy injured during officer-involved shooting in Lauderdale County

Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting with the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department that happened early this morning on Brown Street in Meridian.

The incident happened about 5:45 a.m. Initial reports indicate that Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department was investigating a homicide that happened on Thanksgiving when deputies encountered a possible suspect.

After a brief pursuit, the suspect and deputies exchanged gunfire. One deputy was injured and taken to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The suspect was arrested.

MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.

It is the 26th officer-involved shooting in the state this year.
