Demolition work continues on St. John Elementary building in Gulfport
GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- Demolition work continued for the second day on the old St. John Elementary building in Downtown Gulfport.
The Catholic Diocese of Biloxi decided earlier this year to demolish the building due to the prohibitive costs of restoring it.
The school closed in 2011 and the building has sat largely vacant since then.
A few weeks ago, former St. John students held a farewell mass and final walkthrough of the building as a way to celebrate the school’s rich history in Gulfport.
