Democrats make gains in state legislature

It was Election Day in many states across the country Tuesday. Here in Mississippi, there were a variety of elections, the most important pertaining to the state legislature.

Special elections for eight state Senate districts and two House districts were on the ballot after court-ordered redistricting to allow for more majority-minority districts.

Democrats picked up two Senate seats and one in the state House after the returns came in, breaking the GOP’s super majority in the upper chamber.
