Democratic Primary Candidate Forum

Tonight, Democratic candidates running for Roger Wicker’s senate seat answered questions posed by members of the media about various topics including health care, education, and the economy.

The forum was held at the Good Deeds Community Center in Gulfport and was organized by the Pass Christian Democratic Coalition and the Democratic Executive Committees of Hancock, Harrison, and Jackson counties.

Tonight, four of the six Democratic candidates including Howard Sherman, Omeria Scott, David Baria, and Jensen Bohren were present at the forum.

The winner of the June 5th Democratic Primary will challenge the winner of the Republican primary in the November 6th U.S. Senate Special Election. Nan Cummins with the Pass Christian Democratic Coalition said, “We are seen nationally as a pretty backward state I have to say and I think we can do better. We have to select and elect the very best representatives we can so we have to educate ourselves as to who is who and what they’re interested in.”

Candidate David Baria said, “I think the people of Mississippi are ready for a change so it’s going to take an energized group of voters that want to get out and turn out like they did in Alabama and vote Democrat.”

The last time Mississippi had a Democrat in the Senate was January of 1989.
