De’Michael Harris propels Southern Miss to win over UTEP

On Saturday, Southern Miss led wire-to-wire in its 31-13 win over UTEP and senior running back De’Michael Harris had a lot to do with that.

Today, the converted wide receiver was one of five players named to the ‘Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll’ given to the nation’s most versatile player.

Harris scored two touchdowns in the first six minutes of the game as the Golden Eagles jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead.

A screen pass accounted for 74 of his 191 all-purpose yards, comprised of 80 receiving, 62 rushing, and 49 kick return.

His second score was just as impressive in its own right with the speedster collecting ankles on his way to the end zone for a two yard scamper.

Quarterback Jack Abraham says that kind of versatility only makes his job that much easier. “He’s made the offense that much more dynamic having that speed back there and he’s a dynamic playmaker that can go out there and make plays at any given time, and it kind of gives us more options out of the backfield running routes and he also can get in there and run it up the middle so that’s definitely a good thing.”

Next up for Southern Miss is a much needed bye week after that tough non-conference schedule before returning to action on homecoming against North Texas.
