Deep sea fishing rodeo comes to a close
Today the 75th Annual Mississippi Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo came to a close.
From adults to kids alike across the south, fishermen reeled in tons of fish from across the Gulf.
One local fisherman, Jordan Matthews, has been fishing the rodeo for over two decades as he says it continues to be an event for his family.
He would also place high as a top finisher with his catches of Barracuda, King Mackerel, Lemon Fish, and Gray Snapper.
Matthews says his philosophy on catching the big ones are simply to put it in the hands of fate.
“It’s all about luck at the end of the day right? So you got to have the right tackle the right bait, but like the covia we call it slow trolling for King Mackerel,” Matthews said. “I mean like you can try to do all the right stuff but at the end of the day, the fish have to bite and then you just have to make it happen after that.”
