Dedeaux Road widening project moves into phase one

After being in the works for over a decade, the City of Gulfport officially moves into the first phase of the Dedeaux Road Widening Project.
The purpose of the project is to widen Dedeaux Road from Dede Drive to Three Rivers Road, widening Dedeaux Road’s current two lanes to a four lane boulevard.
Gulfport city officials are waiting for Mayor Billy Hewes to sign the official document before submitting the project to the Mississippi Department of Transportation. Once the city gets the okay from MDOT, the council will advertise for bids. Gulfport Public Works Budget Analyst Ryan Merrill said, “The decorative lighting, the pathways, the sidewalks, ways that people would just get around and move to and from their houses as well as the businesses which should help increase the traffic leading into these businesses which should increase their sales and their business.”
City officials are estimating the total cost of the project to be about $5 million.
