Death benefits for first responders who contract COVID

Tomorrow Governor Reeves is set to sign a house bill that will ensure families of law enforcement and firefighters who died after contracting COVID-19 in the line of duty will receive full state death benefits.

Survivors’ benefits are $100,000 per first responder.

As part of House Bill 779, $5 million will be transferred from the Coronavirus State Fiscal Recovery Fund to the Law Enforcement Officers and Firefighters Death Benefits Trust Fund to help cover the cost of the COVID-related benefits to be disbursed.
