Daycare still trying to regroup after Moss Point tornado

Many students have returned to school in Moss Point. For some, however, their parents are trying to figure out where to place them with one daycare still suffering from last month’s tornado.

Mary Odom, owner of Mary’s Little Lambs Daycare and Preschool, has nurtured and educated kids in Moss Point for more than 28 years, raising many adults in the community.

But after last month’s tornado, the damage to the daycare shattered the hearts of not just the owner, but many families and kids.

She has tried to clear as much debris as possible with the help from family and the community.

Over the past few weeks, Odom has made numerous phone calls to her insurance company. “A long recovery process, a long waiting on the insurance company. I’m still waiting. So, the parents are having to place their children other places because I’m still waiting to see what’s going to happen. It’s been an emotional time. I said, even the children, they come by here even those that have graduated from Mary’s Little Lamb, alumni, they come by to help and they’re teary. They’re even sadden about the tornado and the damages to the daycare.”

Recent storms have destroyed her daycare even more, which has become unsanitary for her and the staff.
