A Day At USM In Long Beach
Dozens of girls from several Coast schools pounded the pavement in Long Beach today to see what USM Gulf Park has to offer.
The sixth annual “Day at USM” is sponsored by the college’s women’s and gender studies program. The day is meant to empower young coastal area females to begin looking at possible career choices.
Students from Long Beach, Gulfport and St. Patrick Catholic High School will be spending the day touring campus, listening to prominent female campus leaders and seeing what majors and programs suit them best.
While the students are only juniors, they say the importance of starting that search is now. St. Patrick High School junior Lillie Guida said, “It is really important because as you get older, you can learn about the opportunities you have and today is a great day to learn that.”
St. Patrick High School junior Melanie Nguyen said, “I think it’s important because it’s what we’re going to do after we get out of high school and college. It’s basically our life in the future.”
In all, over 50 students attended today’s event.
