Day Two of Dewitt Trial

Trial resumed today for Danielle Dewitt, the former girls basketball assistant coach for Hancock High School accused of sexual contact with a student.
Former high school Principal Rhett Ladner took the stand first today, testifying to concerns of inappropriate behavior between Dewitt and the student, as did Assistant Superintendent Donnie Gholsten and former Head Coach Pam Slayton.
They all seemed to agree that the inappropriate behavior in question was a clear display of favoritism for the victim, as well as texting, calling and spending time outside of school functions and practice, something they recalled discussing with the defendant when a meeting was called to bring up the concerns. They all said no one had any concerns of a sexual relationship.
A former teammate of the victim also took the stand today and said Dewitt had taken her and the victim to watch a basketball game in New Orleans where she said Dewitt accused her of being jealous of her relationship with the victim.
A girl who says she is best friends with the victim testified today as well, saying she observed Dewitt expressing “obsessive behavior” to the victim and that she saw Dewitt stroke the victims arm and hair several times.
The court also heard from Investigator John Luther who arrested Danielle Dewitt on charges of sexual battery. Prosecutors presented the jury with evidence Luther and other investigators collected from Dewitt’s home.
After his testimony, the victim took the stand in front of the jury in a closed courtroom. Attorney Jim Davis tells News 25 the court still has yet to hear from several more witnesses. The trial is expected to resume tomorrow.
