David D’Aquilla Becomes Gulfport Leisure Services Director

For the past 15 years, David D’Aquilla has been the Assistant Director of Gulfport Leisure Services, but will now get his chance to lead the way as Director.

Leisure Services is in charge of most entertainment venues, including the small craft harbor and Jones Park. One of the largest projects the department tackled is the Gulfport Sportsplex, which earlier this year hosted the Mississippi Softball Classic, brining top tier college softball talent, such as Baylor and Mississippi State, to the Coast. Now that he is leading the department, D’Aquilla doesn’t plan to stop making Gulfport a desirable sports and tourism destination.

D’Aquilla says, "Last year, we made some improvements to our five field complex. We have another four field complex that’s starting in November. We’ll start rehabbing those facilities. Our numbers at the Sportsplex are going to be larger this year than they were last year. We keep bringing people in, we continue to grow, and we’re real excited about the opportunities that we have out there."

Leisure Services will continue to improve the Sportsplex as they get ready for next year’s Mississippi Softball Classic.
