Daughter’s nomination gives ‘silly’ dad Father of the Year honors

To kick off this Father’s Day weekend, the Biloxi Lions Club presented its annual Father of the Year award.

The award began in 1999 and since then, 24 men have received the honor.

The 2022 recipient is Ryan Rockholt.

Ryan was nominated by his daughter, Baylin, who called the high school teacher a “huge kid” who has no fear, loves nature and takes every chance get gets to be silly.

Ryan is a husband, father, coach and a high school educator here on the Coast.

“It hits a little bit closer to home, being a high school educator here on the Gulf Coast and a person who teaches a course about relationships and teaching students how to do that,” Rockholt said. “It allows me to know that I am practicing what I preach.”

Rockholt’s daughter, Baylin, said her father is always there.

“He’s always there if you’re sad and he’s athletic. He’s really fun and he’s just really nice to everybody.”
