Damage assessments continue after storms in Mississippi

Crews are out today continuing to assess the damage caused by tornadoes and storms in more than 20 Mississippi counties over the weekend.

Preliminary MEMA reports say that three people were killed and nearly 30 others were injured as a result of tornadoes and severe storms that touched down.

21 counties are reporting damage.

Governor Tate Reeves issued a state of emergency as a result of the damage and loss of life.

MEMA crews are out in the most impacted areas today, getting a more accurate assessment of the damage.

The governor made another stop in Tylertown in Walthall County. Three storm deaths, including a seven-year-old boy, were reported in that county.

The governor visited with people at Tylertown Baptist Church.

He said the tornado that came through Walthall County on Saturday stayed on the ground for more than 70 miles.
