Customers react to climbing gas prices across the Gulf Coast

SOUTH MISS (WXXV)- Drivers across the Gulf Coast are feeling another squeeze at the pump as gas prices continue to climb.

WXXV’s Brynne Baxley spoke with customers about how the rising costs are hitting their wallets and shares practical ways you can save on your next fill up.

As of Monday, according to AAA, the national gas price average was $4.45. Wayne is visiting from Arizona and is impressed with the prices. “Back home the best I could do was about 5.81. The best I’ve done is 4.58 back in Louisiana. This is 4.99 and it’s all for diesel and I go through a lot of it. I get about 6 and half miles to the gallon.”

Wayne says he uses apps like Gas Buddy to find the best prices. Locals like Kevin Smith say he’s impacted by the cost each day. “I cut grass for a living, so gas prices affect me every day with what I charge my customers every day, I don’t love the gas prices.”

Kevin says he tries to minimize hauling his trailer. “I try to be more efficient as to when I use my trailer.”

Some fuel saving tips from AAA include minimizing the use of AC, avoid speeding, remove extra weight from your car, and run less errands during the day.
