Cuban commodore arrives in Biloxi as ambassador
Tonight an international guest joined the Biloxi Yacht Club at dinner to discuss an event that would create a potential partnership between two nations.
Commodore Diaz Esrich is visiting Biloxi from the Hemingway International Yacht Club, the only club in the entirety of Cuba. The commodore met with representatives from Biloxi’s Yacht Club and Mayor Gilich to discuss a possible boat race, starting at the yacht club in Biloxi and ending in Cuba at Escrish’s home port. Biloxi Mayor Andrew ‘FoFo’ Gilich said, “We have some great things on the horizon with our two countries and again if there is an opportunity to welcome someone we’re gonna do it. This is Biloxi. We’re most proud of.”
Barry Barq with the Biloxi Yacht Club said, “We were lucky and really pleased they chose our yacht club to come down and try to form up this union between two countries and try to pull off this great race to Cuba.
The commodore also serves as Cuba’s goodwill ambassador to recreational boats both internationally and locally.
