CSX construction to cause multiple detours in Biloxi

Starting this week, nearly 15,000 Coast motorists may have to reroute their commutes through Biloxi.

Multiple railroad crossing construction projects begin this week in Biloxi, causing several detours in the downtown area.

Porter Avenue between Judge Sekul Avenue and Division Street will close for two weeks beginning today and will reopen September 6th.

Drivers should plan to use Forrest Avenue as an alternate route. Additionally, the rail crossing at Caillavet Street will be closed 24 hours a day starting Tuesday through Friday.  City of Biloxi Public Affairs Specialist Cecilia Dobbs Walton said, “City-wise, we just want to make sure that motorists are aware, that motorists take their time when leaving and arriving at certain destinations that include Caillavet Street because there will be detour signs out. You can sign up for the text alert system to get information on what roads will be closed and when they will open.”

Those who usually cross the railroad tracks at Caillavet should detour to Reynoir Street. For more traffic updates text ‘Biloxi’ to 99411.
