Cruisin’ the Coast Biloxi Block Party
Before the break of dawn hit the Coast this morning, antique cars and cruisers flooded the streets of downtown Biloxi for the annual Cruisin’ the Coast Block Party. News 25’s Laurene Callander was there before the event officially got underway, she shows us how car enthusiasts from across the nation jump started their day in Biloxi.
A sea of antique hot rods, different models, years, and colors, all of it is a car lover’s dream. This dream became a reality at the annual Biloxi Block Party. For some, it’s a blast from the past. John Boyette, a registered cruiser, said, “You’ve always seen cars when you were younger and you say ‘I’d like to have one of those’ and I’ve been able to pick up the cars that I’ve wanted.”
The downtown block party also inspires car lovers to get moving on their next big project. “I look at all the cars, I even get on the ground and look underneath it and to see how it’s done and that gives me a pretty good reference on what I need to do to my car,” said Boyette.
The block party gives car lovers the opportunity to show off what some have built from scratch but also build lifelong friendships.
Registered cruiser Dean Braud said, “We see him down here on the Coast every year. Sometimes they come to the house in Gonzales to crawfish boils and became real good friends with them. They’re part of the family now.” Braud, from New Orleans, met his friend Reagan from Missouri years ago at a car show. Now they go to each other’s family weddings. Braud’s advice is go to car shows and reunite with friends from the past and spark new friendships. “You just start talking, you may swap phone numbers. They may call you and ask more questions as they’re going through the build and you can help them out. You just meet people, meet people and it just keeps getting bigger and bigger.”
The annual block party was open for cruisers from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. in downtown Biloxi.
