Cruisin’ the Coast Activities Continue for Tourists & Locals

Another day means another full lineup for Cruisin’ the Coast. While traffic along Highway 90 may be a headache, for many, it’s worth it to see all types of cars and have all sorts of fun.

Jake Herrington is from Meridian, Mississippi, but is spending the week along the Coast and is excited about all of the Cruisin’ events. Herrington says, “We just come down for Cruisin’ the Coast for the whole week. This is our vacation from work, might as well be a business trip. It’s just a good time. All the cars in the world you could ever imagine to see.”

Tuesday morning, he was at his favorite event: the auto course at the Coliseum. He says hearing the cars rev their engines and watching them race through the turns is always a good time. Herrington also says, “Oh it’s just good sportsmanship. I like watching the fast cars playing at horse power, just good looking cars that go fast.”

The We Salute Our Veterans event at Centennial Plaza in Gulfport was also going on Tuesday. This allows veterans from the VA Hospital a chance to come out, get outside, and check out all the old cars. Robert Ladner, a WWII veteran, says, “I love it. I love those old cars, and they look nice, I think, every one of them.”

Ladner enjoys reminiscing about old cars and listening to the King and he isn’t the only one. Billie Boyd, a Vietnam War veterans, closes, “Yes, it’s lovely out here in the fresh air, hospitality is nice too. Everybody I’ve met has had that big smile.”

From screeching wheels to Elvis Presley, Cruisin’ the Coast has something for everyone to enjoy.
