Crowds gather for 96th Blessing of the Fleet
BILOXI, Miss. (WXXV)- The 96th Blessing of the Fleet celebration, one of Biloxi’s oldest cultural traditions, hit the water Sunday.
The Blessing of the Fleet began Sunday with the ceremonial dropping of the wreath in the Biloxi Channel while this year’s Shrimp King Brian Gollott and Shrimp Queen Kovacevich greeted shrimpers passing by on their boats in the channel.
Boaters also received a blessing from a priest as they passed by the king and queen’s boat.
Over at Harrah’s Great Lawn, people also gathered for the Blessing of the Fleet Festival with live music, food, and vendors set up for people to enjoy.
