Crawfish Music Festival wrapped up this weekend
COVID-19 canceled the Crawfish Music Festival last year at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum and this year it was greeted with a wet start to the festival, but the rain cleared up just in time for the final day.
The cool breeze from the Gulf of Mexico welcomed festivalgoers to the Mississippi Gulf Coast for the 28th annual Crawfish Music Festival. When the festival started on Wednesday rain poured from the skies, leaving many vendors soaked. Vendor Kriss Amacker, owner of Sweety Pies Catering and Bakery LLC, says the damp weather put a damper on her sales. “Well, sales are down obviously because there was nobody here. They had moved the music inside.”
Leslie Landeche, sales manager at Copeland’s Mobile Kitchen, can agree. “Definitely a downer in the beginning of the week, we were out here Wednesday, Thursday, Friday pretty soaked and it was a little desolate on Wednesday and Thursday, but Friday it really did start to pick up. We had a good crowd. People were excited to see us and we were really excited to see them and of course, yesterday was a downer as well.”
The crawfish cook off was originally set for Saturday with over 30 teams participating, but after the weather did not hold out on Saturday, a couple of teams had to pull out of the cookoff. Team Rougaroux member Robert Warner said, “They asked if people wanted a refund, but we already had a lot of time and money involved and so we was like oh no we are going.”
Team Mitchell Distributing member Jimbo Dawson said, “Mother Nature didn’t want to work with us, but guess what? She showed up and showed out today.”
Festivalgoers like Jack Peplowski and Gavin Phillips drove from Lake Charles, Louisiana for some food and fun. “We drove here. It was about four-and-a-half-hour drive and well worth it. Crawfish is good. It was a lot.”
