#COUNTMEIN The 2020 Census
In mid-March homes across the country will begin receiving invitations to complete the 2020 Census.
This week is ‘Census Statistics in Schools Week’ and all the schools in the Harrison County School District will be hosting a variety of interactive classroom activities and challenges to raise awareness about the importance of completing the census.
Today, an official with the U.S. Census Bureau spoke with a group of students from North Gulfport Middle School to help them understand how the census impacts federal funds that our community receives for special education, school lunch programs, classroom technology, teacher training, after-school programs and more. North Gulfport Middle School Teacher Douglas Reid said, “Well the funding that is based off of this census relates directly to them and also for my field, history specifically, it relates to the government and how many representatives we have for the federal government.”
Students across the school district will continue to learn about the census throughout the rest of the week.
