Counterfeit Money Issue in Jackson County

Law enforcers with the Jackson County Sheriff’s department say they’re getting more reports of counterfeit money changing hands and enough is enough.
Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell tells News 25 that businesses and individuals are reporting counterfeit money on a weekly and nearly day to day basis.
Jackson County investigators want you to be cautious of the money you accept. If it doesn’t look or feel normal, don’t accept it.
Sheriff Ezell says just recently a defendant was bold enough to attempt to pay a fine using fake money. “Showed up over at the substation trying to pay their fines with this counterfeit money. It didn’t take us long to figure it out. Don’t come to the sheriff’s office and try to pay with counterfeit money, you might get busted.”
If you hold a bill up to the light and don’t see a security thread, it is definitely fake. Right now using counterfeit money is a misdemeanor charge.
