Cooling off at the Summer Enrichment Fun Day
Families and kids had some fun in the sun today as part of a summer enrichment program in D’Iberville.
The Mississippi Center for Autism and Related Development Disabilities held their first-ever summer fun day for their summer clients.
Kids had the chance to cool off from the heat on the water slide and participate in interactive events like potato sack races and face painting.
Behavioral Technician Carmen Payton says this event was inspired by a client who wanted an opportunity to play outside with their friends with these activities having a big impact on social development for children. “What we teach our kids, we teach on social interaction, and with COVID it kind of stopped that, so now it’s just a time to kind of help work on those skills and get as interactive with kids as possible.”
Organizers say the event was also a way to celebrate the kids’ achievements while being able to social distance and have fun.
