‘Cooking Matters’ offers hands on cooking class for adults

Grab your chef’s hats and head to the kitchen.

‘Cooking Matters’ is an adult cooking class that teaches families how to prepare healthy meals. The two-hour class includes information on food preparation, grocery shopping, food budgeting, and nutrition.

The class learned how to make barley jambalaya along with a happy healthy berry blast off, which is similar to a parfait, that includes fresh fruit and whole grain granola.

After completing the balanced meal, participants get to take home the groceries used and make it at home.

The class was taught by Jenna Quave with Mississippi State Extension. “The participants will be cooking all this themselves. They do it, it’s all hands on. And then we’ll taste it at the end and kind of have a round table and discuss what they would like to change or what they would add differently at home for their families.”

The class will be learning a different recipe next Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Pass Christian Library.
