Cook Road Corridor
A five lane corridor connecting Harrison to Jackson County is in the works. The governor has already pledged $10.2 million in BP money to help build it.
Jackson County Supervisor Troy Ross says the money gives them about half of what it will take to complete the project but it definitely helps speed up the process. The Cook Road corridor will take Mallett Road in D’iberville and connect it with Seaman Road in Jackson County.
Leaders hope it will open the door for more development in the St. Martin area. “You’ve got the big box stores that are around the country that will be able to look at our sites in Jackson County and we’ve got a couple parcels on that street that are going to be 66 acres, 60 acres. So, they’re large parcels. We’re working with the state to see what we can to do to incentivize businesses to come in but Jackson County is about to open the door for commercial development. As you’ve seen in Jackson County, we’ve done well with industry but we need to diversify our economy and I think this is the corridor that’s going to bring it to us.”
Leaders hope to see construction begin sometime around the end of this year.
