Controlled Burn Alarms Residents

If you were driving down Cowan-Lorraine yesterday evening, you may have noticed a large amount of smoke rising from a blaze just north of Bayou Bernard.
Several concerned residents called the Gulfport Fire Department to report the flames reaching nearly 50 feet in the air. Upon arrival it was learned that it was a controlled burn by the landowner and he has a permit to do so. The property owner says he hopes to clear the land for future development.
