Construction update on new Harrison County schools

Harrison County School District plans to add a brand new elementary and middle school to their roster for the 2022 school year.

Creekbend Elementary and Middle School has hit the 50 percent completion mark on construction.

Work began in June 2020 and plans to be finished by May 31st, 2022. Construction includes two separate gyms for each school, but will include a shared cafeteria, library, and administrative offices.

The campus is 136,000 square feet and if weather permits, classes will begin just in time for fall 2022. Hardy and Associates Owner/ Harrison County School District Architect Marty Hardy said, “We are very excited. I think this is going to be a great addition to the Harrison County School District and also the community. With the amount of housing going up, it’s desperately needed. I think it’s going to be a great addition to it. There’s a lot of activity, brick going up, masonry going up, roofing going up in place. Also, if you go inside, you’ll see there’s a lot of work going on with the electrical, HVAC, all kind of plumbing, painting has started. So, we’re moving along really quick.”

The rain has been the biggest setback on the project. Weather permitting, they hope to finish on schedule.
