Congressional Delegate Debate Round Two
Strong accusations out of Long Beach after candidates for Mississippi’s fourth congressional district U.S Representatives seat go head-to-head during a political forum.
News 25’s Kendra Turley takes us inside tonight’s debate at USM’s Gulf Park campus.
Democrat Mark Gladney, Libertarian Ric McCluskey and Shawn O’Hara of the Reform Party traveled to USM’s Gulf Park campus for round two of congressional delegate debates.
Each candidate took turns listing their qualifications and concerns for the state.
The only candidate not in attendance was incumbent Steven Palazzo.
During the debate, McCluskey took the stand and claimed sources told him Palazzo went AWOL from the Mississippi National Guard. “Ladies and gentlemen, this is fraudulent. This is criminal. He took your money. Now Mark, what would happen to a young man if he were to do that in your unit? (He’d go to jail.) He goes to jail,” said McCluskey.
McCluskey says the Mississippi National Guard has documentation to support allegations that Palazzo was absent from mandatory drills. “I promise you. I’ll urge the National Libertarian Party, I hope that you urge the National Democratic Party and I’m going to urge the National Republican Party to launch an investigation immediately,” said McCluskey.
While each candidate is confident they are the best fit to secure the title as U.S. Representative, all three agree that Palazzo is one candidate who does not deserve the seat. “It’s all about character. If we don’t start demanding that from our leaders on all levels, we’re never going to get things changed,” said Gladney.
