CONFEDERATE STATUE COMES DOWN

The city of New Orleans has removed the first of four confederate-era monuments in the historic city.
Early this morning crews took down the liberty place monument.
Several police officers in tactical gear surrounded the monument, put up barricades and closed off the streets.
The monument was dismantled from top to bottom to make the removal easier.
Several people gathered in a parking lot nearby to watch, but there were mixed feelings on the removal among the crowd.
