Concerts on the Causeway benefits Gulf Coast Skateparks Association
One unique group benefitted from a local concert series on Wednesday night.
Concerts on the Causeway is a monthly event held at Yul’s Place in Biloxi that raises money for a new organization each month.
This month, it chose to support the Gulf Coast Skateparks Association, which aims to promote skateboarding on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and is currently raising money to build a new skatepark in Biloxi.
Gulf Coast Skateparks Association president Tyler Prowant explained his big goals for those involved with the organization.
“What’s crazy to me is that there’s no platform or way for someone from the Mississippi Gulf Coast to find their way to the Olympic track,” Prowant said. “What we’re hoping to do is to revitalize that, make sure there are skateparks and ways to hone their craft, so kids one day who see that on television can aspire to be that and one day we can have someone from the Mississippi Gulf Coast representing us up there in the Olympics.”
Wednesday’s Concerts on the Causeway featured performances from local jazz pianist Mr. Gill and newly-formed band Mudmouth. The Gulf Coast Skateparks Association also provided ramps for skaters of all ages to show off their tricks.
