Community sends off Gulfport Lady Admirals soccer as they head to State Championship

The Gulfport Girls Soccer team is state championship bound!

The Lady Admirals began their day with a group prayer then loaded up the bus that would take them to the championship game at Ridgeland High School, but they couldn’t leave that easily.

The high school halls were filled with applause and cheers from their fellow classmates and teachers.

High fives, photos, and even confetti to get the girls in game day mode!

This is a day the girls say they will never forget and its bittersweet for senior players Anna Grace Deakle and Allie Gant. Deakle said, “It’s just crazy to think that I’m here for the third time. A lot of soccer players talk about ‘oh we want to win a state championship’ and it never actually happens. They never actually had the chance to go to state, but I’m here for the third time, so I just want to go and make history for Gulfport High.”

Gant said, “It means everything. After losing 13 seniors, we did not expect to make it this far. I don’t think anybody really expected us to make it this far, and just to have a team like we do it’s just everything. It means everything for my last year and I’m just excited for today, and I hope we bring home the gold ball.”

The state championship match will be against Clinton tonight at 6 p.m.
