Community rallying to support family after deadly train crash in Stone County

STONE COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- A South Mississippi community is mourning after a train accident that claimed the lives of five people this past Friday.

Now, the community is rallying to support the family members of the victims.

Trinity Funeral Services is stepping in to help, asking for donations to ease the financial strain on a father and a grandfather who lost their family members.

A mother, two of her daughters, and her fiancé all lost their lives Friday in a deadly train crash in Stone County. Another daughter is still in the hospital after that deadly crash.

In the midst of grief, the responsibility of three funerals will fall on the father and grandfather.

Trinity Funeral Services has stepped in, helping coordinate arrangements, and urging the community to lend a hand.

If you would like to help, call 601-928-5558.

We also reached out to Stone County Sheriff Todd Stewart for an update on the 23-year-old woman who was airlifted from the crash scene Friday. Stewart says she is now in stable condition.

MDOT is currently in the process of installing flashing lights and gates at this railroad crossing. The department shared a statement with WXXV saying in part it is waiting on an estimate from the railroad company.

Once the estimate is received, MDOT will authorize funding for construction and issue a notice for the railroad to install the flashing lights and gates.
