Community, police department collaborate to open cold weather shelter in Wiggins
WIGGINS, Miss. (WXXV)- As freezing temperatures moved into South Mississippi, one local police department is making sure no one is left out in the cold.
The Wiggins Police Department opened a cold weather shelter and the community stepped up in a big way.
With temperatures low across Stone County, the police department and some community members worked hand-in-hand together.
Once word spread, residents from across Wiggins began bringing donations with blankets, coats, food, and other essentials all to help neighbors they may not even know.
Police say the outpouring of support has been overwhelming and shows the heart of this community during difficult times.
The Wiggins Police Department says donations are still welcome and anyone needing shelter is encouraged to come by the department.
