Community pep rally firing up the Biloxi High football team
Football season is upon us and that means it’s time to get your local favorite teams geared up to start the football season and what better way than a pep rally.
Freshman Katie Mills said, “I just want us to win so we can spirit and celebrate and have a good year.” Sentiments felt by all who filled the Indian Stadium at Biloxi High School for the annual Shrimp Bowl Pep Rally.Head Football Coach Katlan French said, “It’s something that we do here every year. We bring the whole community in and introduce the cheerleaders, introduce the band, the dance team, ROTC, and the football team. It gets everybody recognition before the football season starts and gets a little bit of excitement going.”
Principal Marcus Boudraux said, “We like to invite the community out and just celebrate the beginning of the school year and nothing says the beginning of the school year like football season.”
McKailynn Alford is a freshman. This is her first pep rally as a high school student. She said the start to football season this year is something she’s been looking forward to since she was very little. “When I was in junior high, of course, I wanted to make the high school cheer team because I was on the junior cheer team. It’s always something I wanted to do. I’m looking forward to just seeing everybody out in the crowd and being able to perform in front of them.”
Coach French says between the roar of the band and the cheers of the crowd this is a great way to kick off football season. “It definitely helps the players knowing that they have a big support system. It helps all of our activities, the band and cheerleaders. We have a great fan base and that’s definitely important.”
“The goal is to fill the stands with energy, get them in the stands for all the games, and support the team all the way through the season.”
