Community Needs Help Removing Wreaths
During the holidays, to honor those heroes laid to rest at the Biloxi National Cemetery, Crusaders for Veterans laid wreaths on their graves a few weeks before Christmas. Now, they need help removing them.
Tomorrow morning at 11, volunteers are needed to begin removal of almost 9,000 wreaths on graves at the cemetery. The wreaths are usually taken down the first weekend of January but that was changed to this weekend due to the holidays falling on that weekend.
Once picked up, the wreaths will be stored in pods at John Fayard Self Storage until next year. Riemann Funeral Family Home Community Outreach Director Veronica Romano said, “Harrison County, Crusaders for Veterans and myself have all partnered together and this is our third year that we’ve done this. We look forward to hopefully, next year, having the entire cemetery covered with wreaths. And we hope to make this a yearly tradition that families can come out and place them in December then come back in January to help us pick them up.”
If you’re interested in helping, rain or shine, simply show up tomorrow at the cemetery at 11 a.m.
