Community mourning Dr. Jim Franks
The Gulf Coast is mourning the loss of Dr. Jim Franks.
Dr. Franks was a senior researcher at the Gulf Coast Research Lab’s Center for Fisheries.
He is also one of the original founding members of the Gulf Coast Billfish Classic.
Tributes pouring in, saying Dr. Franks contributed 30 years of research to support the success of sports fishing events, especially educating the youth.
The Gulf Coast Research Lab shared he joined their program in 1963 and remained the longest serving employee until his retirement in 2024.
They add his contributions to fisheries research will continue to impact scientists, students, and the public for generations.
