Community gathers for Frappuccino with Ocean Springs Fire Department

Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce Main Street Tourism Bureau brought people together with the city’s fire chief for their Frappuccino with Fire event.

People were able to hear from Ocean Springs Fire Chief Derek McCoy this morning while enjoying a complimentary breakfast at Coffee Fusion.

Chief McCoy talked about the fire department getting two new engines, the updates and renovations going on at Fire Station 3, and the department getting dive equipment for six divers who are going through a dive training to become certified divers.

He also touched on legislation passing on statewide medical control. Chief McCoy said, “They chose Ocean Springs to be the first organization to sign up under this new program and in doing so all of our EMTs within our department has medical control state wide. So, that’s medical control agreement travels anywhere in the state of Mississippi whereas before with that medical control they wouldn’t have been able to do that.”

The department also have five members in the process of getting their FAA drone license.
