Community comes together to help clean up the Coast

Volunteers and members of the Gulfport Police Department spent part of their Saturday morning picking up debris and trash around the Courthouse Road Pier.

Police Chief Adam Cooper says the clean up team filled an entire box of trash by the end of the cleanup.

Gulfport police plan to do bi-monthly cleanings, typically in the morning hours, depending on the weather.

The police department believes this is not only the best way to build community involvement, but also to keep attracting tourism here on the Gulf Coast. Chief Cooper said, “I mean, everyone wants to see a beautiful beach when they come out in the morning. Look down the Coastline, it’s reflecting in the sunlight. It’s great. The last thing I want to see is a piece of garbage sticking up out of the sand. So, I don’t want anyone to get hurt on the garbage that’s left nearby and there’s plenty of receptacles out here which people use them a little more often.”
