Community Action of South Mississippi hosts teacher training

Not all heroes wear capes, but these educators do and they are ready to make sure their students have a successful school year.

Community Action of South Mississippi held its annual two-day pre-service training for its pre-k ward teachers.

Educators went through a series of team building exercises while also learning new skills and techniques to better serve their students.

Teachers also learned from Child Protective Services specialists and other specialists how to spot child abuse and communicable diseases.

The training is mandatory and Early Childhood Development Manager Priscilla Edwards says it makes teachers better superheroes. “To work with the children and the communities, we have to be heroes in such that we have to act. We have to come in every morning ready, not only to take care of our families at home, but we also have to take care of the families here, which includes our children and the parents that bring them to us and also our co-workers.”

Community Action of South Mississippi also provides assistance to families in need.
