“Come and Go Saturdays” at the Mississippi Sandhill National Wildlife Refuge
If you need somewhere to take the kids this weekend, the Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge may be the place for you.
The refuge will be hosting “Come and Go Saturday” tomorrow for children on the Coast. Volunteers at the refuge will lead an arts and crafts project from 9 until 3. Like its title suggests, you can come and go at any time. While you’re there, you can also check out the exhibits in the visitor center or just take in the beautiful view.
“Come and Go Saturdays” is just one event the refuge plans to hold regularly. Volunteer Carol Loew said, “We try and have a program on the third Tuesday of the month for preschoolers. That’s a story, an outside activity and a craft. It’s always free. It starts at 10 and lasts about an hour. This, our “Come and Go Saturday”, we’d like to have on the third Saturday of the month. Each month, they’ll be a different project and next month, we’re going to be doing bird feeders.”
You can also take guided tours of the refuge on Wednesdays and Saturdays if you make a reservation. If you take exit 61 from I-10, the refuge is one mile north.
