College Football Playoff to consider 12 teams

The College Football Playoff has by and large been a success, but as the last seven seasons have shown us, the current four team format is limited, but maybe not for too much longer.

The College Football Playoff committee is reportedly considering a 12-team expansion when it meets in Chicago next week.

The proposal calls for the bracket to include the six highest ranked conference champions and the six remaining highest ranked teams as determined by the Playoff Selection Committee as at-large selections.

The four highest-ranked conference champs would receive a first round bye while teams five through 12 would play each other in the first round on the home field of the higher ranked team.

If approved this change still wouldn’t go into effect this season or next.
