Coliseum Commission to buy Oakmont Property in Biloxi

Another step in the right direction for the Mississippi Coast Coliseum and Convention Center.

This morning, the Harrison County Board of Supervisors approved the Coliseum Commission’s purchase of a home on Oakmont Place.

The property west of the Coliseum will benefit the future of Popp’s Ferry extension, which includes an exit to the Coliseum in the road project plans.

The move will expand the coliseum and convention center’s footprint which will allow them to be more flexible with parking and create a better design of traffic movement. Coast Coliseum and Convention Center Executive Director Matt McDonnell said, “It’ll allow us to do multiple events at the same time where we have the convention center going, the coliseum can operate without missing a beat, and when we bring that many events at the same time with that many people, it’s certainly going to move the needle from an economic standpoint.”

As they continue to move forward, McDonnell hopes to acquire more homes on a month-by-month basis.
